Transport UK – latest adjustment ETS from 70% to 100% coverage as of 1 January 2026

Mobility Supply chains

Starting 1 January 2026, 100% of maritime emissions within the EEA will fall under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). This means that all CO₂, methane (CH₄) and nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions must be recorded and covered by emission allowances. For voyages between EEA and non-EEA ports, 50% coverage applies.

What this means for our transport:

  • ETS costs will increase due to full coverage and the inclusion of additional greenhouse gases.
  • Efficient fuel use, cleaner fuels and route optimization will become more important than ever.
  • Timely adjustments to planning and budgeting are necessary to manage costs.

Implementation timeline:

  • 2024: 40% coverage
  • 2025: 70% coverage
  • 2026: 100% coverage

We will continue to closely monitor developments and will keep you informed in a timely manner about the impact on our transport services.
