Introduction of the Truck Toll (Netherlands, July 1, 2026)

Mobility Transport

Starting July 1, 2026, the Netherlands will introduce a kilometer-based truck toll. All Dutch and foreign trucks over 3,500 kg (vehicle categories N2 and N3) will be required to pay per kilometer driven. The toll applies to almost all highways and selected provincial and municipal roads.

What this means for you:

The new toll will have an impact on transport costs. The total amount depends on:

  • Infrastructure charge – based on vehicle weight
  • Air pollution & noise charge – based on Euro emission class
  • CO₂ charge – based on the vehicle’s CO₂ class

End of the Eurovignette

With the introduction of the truck toll, the Eurovignette will be abolished on July 1, 2026. From this date, no separate Eurovignette will be required for Dutch highways. The new toll replaces it entirely for all domestic and foreign trucks.

Why this Toll is introduced

The kilometer-based toll supports a more sustainable and fair transport system, with the goals of:

  • Reducing CO₂ emissions
  • Encouraging cleaner and more efficient vehicles
  • Ensuring equal competition for domestic and foreign carriers

Through this policy, the Dutch government aims to promote environmentally friendly transport and create a fairer distribution of road usage costs.
